Having faced incest as a child and many other life's hurts, addictions and tragedies, g-g-g grandaughter of the great Chihenne warrior Chief Victorio, Loretta (a.k.a. Medicine Sky Woman) speaks to schools, organizations and other groups about her experiences to educate people about the effects of sexual abuse, substance abuse, being at-risk, how it manifests itself, how to recognize it, and how they can help with this growing problem. On a mission to bring awareness she offers insights about her personal experiences with sexual abuse and talks about being an at-risk teen she can help social workers understand the enormous range of emotions often being experienced by their clients and how they can better comfort and support them, instead of making them feel further victimized.
Loretta offers presentations to organizations, schools, churches and other groups about her experiences to help educate and bring awareness of at-risk kids. She is able to reach victims and survivors with her compassion to show that healing is a process that never ends, but can be done together by speaking out. Whether you were sexually teased or tormented, molested, or raped, the feelings are the same. And they need to be validated and dealt with before any significant healing can occur.
Loretta "Medicine Sky Woman" Mejia is currently writing a book based on her own experiences as a Runaway that talk of family, love, betrayal, and renewal. Like many who struggle with maltreatment in their families of origin, the normal challenges of her childhood development were complicated by shame, fear, pain, and aloneness. Despite these difficulties, she finds ways to bring awareness and healing working with Native and non Native Youth through spiritual, leadership and cultural recovery programs, designed to help broken teens achieve extraordinary outcomes.
In telling her story it may be useful to parents, teachers, social workers, and other professionals who wish to help prevent or ameliorate child sexual abuse or any other awareness that shows a child at-risk. Finally, telling her story provides reason to hope that at-risk kids healing from the deep emotional wounds of sexual abuse to being at-risk in all other areas do have a chance to heal.
INTRODUCTION
People have asked me what my purpose was in founding The Angel to Angel Network, Inc.There are several reasons, but the most obvious is because I was a runaway myself who suffered all kinds of abuse and promised myself one day I would do something about it.Through The Angel to Angel Network, I hope to help victims become survivors.
Although most of my experiences start at a young age, through to this day, I wanted to tell my story to validate feelings of those currently experiencing them. For all of you that feel lost…struggle to learn self reliance…for all of you that feel ugly and dirty…for all of you that feel inferior to everyone around you…for those of you that just somehow feel different than everyone else…for all of you that bravely go from day to day in the face of fear, pain, abandonment, shame, disgust, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and confusion…and for those of you who feel for those of us that suffer…this site is for you.
Based on my true life emotional experiences and my ability to relate to at-risk TEENS, this site was designed to be a friendly/safe site for those who suffer, and will surely help provide them resources and to their loved ones and others to understand the horror that they’ve been through and what they need to heal.
Sharing my story I’m wanting to help people understand the lifetime effects and tragedies that often result from sexual abuse and negligence. The Angel to Angel Network offers a place for TEENS to ask for help and allows them a place to have a voice and to be understood. They are given a chance to find the proper resource and agency to help them properly heal—one that victims can relate to without feeling victimized all over again.
